Rest in Peace, Artemis....
On Saturday September 22nd 2007 at 1pm, Artemis passed away... she had an unseen infection in her bones due to an apparent lack of care prior to her arrival on our porch. Got her to the vet 1st thing Saturday but after looking at the x-rays, there were only two options... amputation of her front feet or euthanasia. As cavies use their front feet like hands, we chose the latter as the more humane decision. She is now out in the backyard under the shade tree where her daughter, Aphrodite, can look out on her from the window seat. As for Aphrodite, she is faring as well as can be expected. As Momma was always with her, she was fearless, romping all over their habitat. But for now, she is spending a lot of time inside her newly empty house, watchful. But she is eating and drinking, and I have hopes for her boisterous noisy self to return as soon as she processes through the loss of her mother. However, as she is going to the vet tomorrow to be checked for the same issue, just in case, that will probably be a few more days....
